Teen To Twenty (The Process)

Being a teenager in today's world is a very hard task, no doubt. You are expected to act like an adult but are treated as a child. You are expected to be 100% sure of what you want to do in your twenties before you even turn 20. When you are 19, isn't the thought of turning 20, scary? Well, it is the same for every 19 years old. However, there is nothing to worry about.

Adults treat us like they have never been a teen in their lifetime. We are judged on the basis of our grades, looks, family background, things that we have little to no control over. How are we expected to do only the right things, when we are just experimenting with life.

I wanted to be a cricket player when I was 12. Then I wanted to become a singer, then a teacher, and then I turned 18. I started to see the real picture of this world which is sad but true. The picture in which the world forces us to think that money is the most important factor. So, I began to look for ways to earn.

I think of myself as a very lucky person because in the age of such a high rate of unemployment in my country, I found a job real quick. I loved that job but when lock down came, I realized that it was the people that I enjoyed spending my time with, not the actual job.

So, I decided to quit, and work on my actual dream, which is to be my own boss. I turned 19 this year, the thought of turning 20 is pretty scary but exciting too.

Now, I just focus on my studies, work, learning new skills, and fitness. This is the time in my life where I genuinely feel productive. I spend my leisure time in the gym or reading good books. I feel like I am building myself. This time stronger than ever. Positively and peacefully!

I have seen that whenever I take some time to peacefully think, I make the right decision. And whenever I don't, the decisions turn out to be not so great. So, this proves that keeping your mind clear and being dedicated is truly the key to achieve anything you want. I also saw that there will always be people who will demotivate you, ignoring them is the best thing. Focus on the people who motivate you, they are the real ones.

I have a pretty supportive family and friends. I have a friend who is genuinely the one whom I can talk to whenever and about whatever. You should surround yourself with people like this. It will genuinely help a lot.

It is very true that money is important for survival but it is not more important than friends, family, and happiness. So, just be positive, work hard, study smart, focus on self care, and learn new skills. These are all the things that will truly help you in your twenties. Don't be scared because the amazing life experiences of the twenties are waiting for you.
