The Best Books I Have Read In 2020
One of the things I spent a lot of my time on was reading books. I have always loved reading books but the busy work and student life didn't give me enough time for leisure reading. This year due to the pandemic, I finally got the chance to catch up on some amazing books. Some of the best books that I read this year are as follows;
1. Happy by Fearne Cotton
The tagline of this book is “finding joy in everyday and letting go of the perfect”, a thing people all around the world were having a hard time doing this year.
The tagline of this book was enough for me to pick it up and start reading. This book is really like a guidebook for me now. It has helped me change my perspective.
I always try to make everything I do as perfect as possible, which is impossible to do every time. There are things in life that are meant to be imperfect and there is nothing wrong with that. However, this was surely not how I felt before reading this book.
This book is very well written and very relatable for me. It has some activity pages that make you think. After reading this book, I felt myself actually becoming happier.
I realized that every day because of social media we do see a lot of negativity and sad news. However, there are a lot of amazing things and great achievements that we can view on the media too. So, why not focus on the positive, right?
This book is a masterpiece beautifully written by Fearne Cotton. It is like a mental detox and feels like meditation and therapy. I would highly suggest this book to everyone. This is a great book to start your new year with.
2. The forty rules of love by Elif Shafak
This book was recommended to me for quite a while repeatedly. I saw a lot of people praising it. So, I thought I should give it a read.
To my surprise, this book is nothing like I thought it was. Thus, “Never judge a book by its cover” proved right to me.
This book is also written amazingly. The writer has given the story a smooth flow. The character building is very jaw-dropping as well. This book gives an inside view of the lives of different kinds of people.
You will certainly stop judging people by their actions or looks after reading this book. This book also teaches us that love is a very strong thing. You can have everything in the world, but still, feel lacking if there is no love.
Now, this love can be in any form. It can be between parents and children, friends, colleagues, or partners. No matter which forms love is in, it is necessary for people.
There are two main stories, Ella and Aziz, and Rumi and Shams. The author has shifted between these 2 stories very smoothly. Overall, it is a great book. I had a great time reading it.
3. Am I normal Yet? By Holly Bourne
This book really made me a huge Holly Bourne fan. The way she has written this book proves what a great writer she is.
She has discussed a very important topic, “OCD” in this book. OCD is an obsessive cleaning disorder. I think people don’t understand how difficult things are for people with OCD.
She has explained the story of a girl named Evie who has OCD. She goes on with the story and explains how Evie is treated in her life. She also tells how people make OCD look like it’s just washing your hands again and again or something like that when it is a lot more than that.
This book is a great combination of funny, emotional, serious, and real. I had an amazing time reading this book and I learned a lot about what OCD actually is.
4. Who says you can’t? You do. By Daniel Chidiac
When I read this book, the first thought that came to mind was how true the things Daniel Chidiac have said are. The second thought was why didn't I read this book sooner?
I picked this book up when I was feeling very low this year. I felt like things were falling apart. The things I wanted to do seemed like they were impossible to achieve. However, this book changed it all.
It made me believe that if I want to, I can do everything I want. To prove the effectiveness of this book, let me tell you that I always wanted to start my own blog. I did, and I achieved my set goals for this year one by one like that.
I worked hard and believed in myself, this is why everything that I achieved this year was possible.
I think this book is a must-read for everyone. Kudos to Daniel Chidiac for writing such an amazing book.
5. Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson
I think this book should be given to all the business owners. This book shows us what's really important while running a business and what isn’t.
This book explains things that companies should look for in employees and how the company should treat them.
I found this book very practical and realistic based on my experience too. I worked with a company that had an attitude that is defined as wrong in this book. I saw that whatever is written in this book is really true.
If you want to start your company or you already are a business owner then this book is a must-read for you. This is actually going to change your perspective.
This book completely covers all the important topics related to business. It basically teaches you how to do business, and not just any business, but properly done business.
End Note
I hope you will enjoy reading these books and learn a lot from them too. Reading is a habit that I didn't have when I was younger.
However, once I developed the habit of reading, it really changed my whole perspective. I learned a lot, and knowledge gained from books is one that no one can steal from you.
So, I hope you read these books and will hopefully like them. That’s it for this blog, see you in the next one. Bye!
